I've been involved in the maritime media industry for more than 15 years, starting my writing and editing career for daily maritime newspaper Lloyd's List. Throughout my career, I've written for a number of leading maritime news sources.
I'm also an award-winning Editor for Port Strategy, The Sea, Shipping Network and the Baltic Exchange, and hold the position of News Editor at Breakbulk magazine. My involvement in the maritime industry is founded on a 1st class Bachelor of Science Maritime Studies degree from Liverpool John Moores University, awarded in 1998. I'm also a current Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
I have more than 20 years of industry experience working as a graphic designer. In that time, I've applied my expertise to a multitude of sectors, from maritime to technology, medical to charity.
My portfolio includes logo design, and stationery and advertising support material as well as brochure, book and magazine layout. In the maritime sphere, I'm currently Art Director for Shipping Network and The Mission to Seafarers' bi-monthly newspaper The Sea.
I completed my BA English with advanced proficiency in French degree at the University of Exeter in 2017. While there, I held the roles of Copy Editor and Online Features Editor for the university’s student newspaper, Exeposé, and was a presenter on the university’s student radio station, Xpression FM. I have also written articles for Stroud News and Journal, Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard, Stroud Life, Gloucester Citizen, Gloucestershire Echo and Her Campus Exeter.
I have previously been lucky enough to be shortlisted for several journalism awards, including the Young Journalist of the Year Award for 2015 at The Clothes Show.
“Carly has been editor of Port Strategy magazine since 2006 and does a very good job for us. On our behalf, she manages freelances and contributes her own copy. It is always on time and straightforward for our production team to process.”
